Wishing for a whisper
I heard a voice and it wasn't you
In my moment of darkest hue
Tracing lines upon my skin
While wondering: "so where you been?"
I miss your tender touch and voice
And I'm sorry for a failed choice
Grieving for the fate we fell into
My heart always singing for me and you
Here I call within my mind
And your face is all I find
Wishing to hope you aren't alone
As I miss your unique tone
The falling tears you seldom see
The deepest darkness that forms a sea
Your hallow soul remembers we
When you gaze upon the sight of me
Chasing away the dark with light
By the mistake my soul will right
Starbursts of soul that call to you
Within the call of deepest blue
This storm that clouds the starscape sky
Will abate before goodbye
And then our song will calm the sea
Our souls are one in you and me
I heard a voice and it wasn't you
In my moment of darkest hue
Tracing lines upon my skin
While wondering: "so where you been?"
I miss your tender touch and voice
And I'm sorry for a failed choice
Grieving for the fate we fell into
My heart always singing for me and you
Here I call within my mind
And your face is all I find
Wishing to hope you aren't alone
As I miss your unique tone

“You remind me of the time I was IN the world.”
the drunken drug addicted
skid row street abortionist
reminisces out loud
as she prepares
sharp, dirty, tools
that will rip life out of Nyla's
scared, sacred, and soon to be scarred womb
“You remind of the time I was IN the world.”
replays in my mind over, and over, and over again
when I hear music and laughter echo through the vents
into my dark empty apartment
“You remind me of the time I was IN the world.”
replays in my mind over, and over, and over again
at the sight of groups of young, bright college students
walking hand in hand

When I'm Gone
A field this morning glows
While beneath the cold river flows
Church bell ringing from across town
While the sun is ready to follow me down
Hold on by yourself
Last a little while
Love this world
With a quiet smile
It’s my time to go
Grownup eyes in the face of a child
Shining out a fever bright candle
Lighting up the sky free and wild
It was nothing I could handle
Hold me in your heart
Hold on by yourself
Last a little while
Love this world
With a quiet smile
It’s my time to go
Bare branches out here scrape the sky
I know there’s no reason to cry
These times come and go
I’ll be down below

Longing
Missing you
is forsaking
the cooler side of the pillow
for the side that remembers
the impression of your cheek
and the soft smell of your hair.
It's reveling
in the butterfly thrill
of your gentle embrace,
but aching to close
the Rubin-vase distance
that separates us.
It's the difference between
the sound of your silver Corolla
as you pull to a stop
in my cul-de-sac
and the way it sounds
when you leave.
It's weaving "I love you"
into every word,
every touch,
every song,
short of actually saying it.
But the thing is,
I don't know
how much longer I can go
without saying it.
